Two Wins in Two Days for Jockey Coach Pilot Scheme

The well documented launch of The British Horseracing Authority Jockey Coach Pilot Scheme in August saw recently licensed apprentice and conditional jockey supplied with invaluable one to one tuition with a specified Jockey Coach, all of whom are or were highly regarded professionals themselves.

The pilot scheme has got off to a flying start, recording two wins in two days this week. The first win came courtesy of Andrias Guerin who won aboard Caunay at Fontwell on 19th Oct for trainer Neil Mullholland. Only 24 hours later at Brighton, Nicole Nordblad followed up with a win aboard Beauchamp Xiara for trainer Hans Adielsson. Both jockeys were ridding winners for the trainers with whom they are based. Andrias Guerin and Nicole Nordblad were assigned Mick Fitzgerald and John Reid as Jockey Coaches respectively.

Guerin demonstrated great ability throughout 2 mile 4 furlong race aboard Caunay. Guerin settled his mount nicely in behind the leading group on the rail. The partnership produced an excellent round of jumping with Guerin producing his mount whilst still on bridle coming up to the third last. Caunay responded to and increased effort from Guerin coming up to the last and produced and excellent leap, pulling clear of Quelqu’un Comme Toi and Adam Wedge up the home straight and winning by a cosy 1 ½ lengths.

John Reid Nicole NNordblad won with similar ease on the flat at Brighton. After breaking well Nordblad had her mount up with the pace, settled in around fourth throughout. Despite, looking awkward coming down the hill, Nordblad seemed unphased and managed to maintain a decent position. On reaching the flatter ground Nordbald manoeuvred her mount off the rail and after one reminder behind the saddle Beauchamp Xiara lengthened well and pulled clear to win by 1 ¼ lengths, appearing to have some left in the tank.

Mick fitz on PunjabiThe one to one coaching received from the Beckham’s and Ronaldo’s of the racing world are clearly paying off, even after only such a short period. Both Reid, a Derby and Arc winning jockey and Fitzgerald, a Grand National and Gold Cup winning jockey were said to be over the moon with their protégé’s latest performances.
