Racing Excellence

Racing Excellence is a collection of training race series that are supported by a Jockey Coach with the aim of developing up and coming jockeys' race riding skills and professionalism.  There are a variety of fixtures flat and jump taking place throughout the country, some 74 races over 7 series.

John FrancomeJohn Francome, ex champion national hunt jockey, broadcaster, author and journalist is the Ambassador for Racing Excellence.  John is a great advocator of the training and education of young jockeys.

"I am pleased to be the Ambassador for Racing Excellence.  Good riding skills and learning to use your hands and heels instead of relying on the whip is something that I am passionate about.  These training races provide an invaluable opportunity to develop these skills and I would encourage any young jockey to take part."

Six time Champion National Hunt Trainer Paul Nicholls, trainer of Cheltenham Gold Cup heroins, Kauto Star and Denman along with many other National Hunt stars also supports the apprentice and conditional training series.

“Over the years Racing Excellence has produced some very good apprentice and conditional jockeys, some of which have ridden for me. From a trainers point of view it is always good to see young jockeys progressing through their careers to become well rounded individuals. Riding in the Racing Excellence series enables a young jockey to work closely with a jockey coach and develop their race riding ability.  Ian Popham is a... winner of the... conditional training series and a conditional that has regularly ridden for us in the past. Ian, like many others on the training series is continually learning the necessary key attributes for being a successful professional. Racing Excellence has done a fine job in developing these skills and providing him with accurate and facilitative information, in the hope that one day he can follow in the footsteps of Ruby Walsh and A P McCoy”.
